By far the easiest way is to use Google AdSense. What AdSense does is automatically serve up text ads based on the content of your page. These are the same types of ads you see along the right side of the page whenever you do a search on Google.

People pay Google for these ads using an auction type of system, where the people willing to pay the most get the top spots. Whenever someone clicks on an ad, the advertiser gets charged by Google. Some of the ads can cost upwards of $50 or more per click, but it’s usually less than $1 or as low as 5 cents.

When you include these ads on your blog or Web page, you share revenue with Google. No one really knows what the sharing percentage is, but most estimate that it’s somewhere around 50%. If you have a very popular blog, it’s feasible to earn hundreds of dollars a day in Adsense revenue.

To get started and learn more, go to http://adwords.google.com and sign up for an account — it’s free. Read their help system and you’ll pretty much learn everything you need to know.

If you’re doing a blog, I recommend using Wordpress and a plug-in called Adsense Deluxe.
